Durban Natural Science Museum

Sports & outdoor events:


South Africa has many sport-related facilities, including rugby stadiums such as Durban's ABSA Stadium that is home of the Sharks team, as well as Pretoria's Loftus Versfeld, home of the Blue Bulls team.

ABSA Stadium is the place where the rugby team, called Natal Sharks, had many successes in competitions such as Currie Cup and Super 14.

The Curie Cup tournament is South Africa’s premier rugby competition, held every year from June to October. The competition was first held in 1889 and it is the oldest rugby competition in the world. There are several teams competing for the prize, representing provinces in South Africa or important regions within the provinces, such as the Natal Sharks (KwaZulu-Natal), the Pumas (Mpumalanga) and the Leopards (North West).

The Super 14 international competition had its inaugural tournament in 1996, with 12 teams playing, from South Africa, New Zeeland and Australia. The Blues team won the tournament 3 times, New Zeeland winning a total of nine Super 14 titles.


Festivals:


⚊ Indaba Festival is an important 4-days event held every year in May, in the city centre of Durban, featuring outdoor exhibitions offered by camping, safari and transport companies, being the largest tourism marketing event in Africa. The festival is organized by Kagiso Exhibitions and Events and provided by the South African Tourism. Visitors can browse through the many displays of tourism products, including offers from business travel agencies and consulting companies.

⚊ KwaZulu Natal Music Imbizo is an entertaining Durban event, held every year in September, presenting the KwaZulu Natal music industry and providing 3 days of provincial music, including all genres between pop music and maskandi.
